Sustainable Stockton Meeting Minutes

Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 7:00 am, Emy J’s/Café Espresso, Stevens

Point Attendees:  Sue Anderson; Donna Literski; Mary Maller; Christy Weseloh; and Sharon Reichert.

Meeting Minutes.  Minutes of 03-05-09 Meeting were approved with one amendment – add “we” after “if” in 2nd sentence under 2nd bullet of Outreach Possibilities (Donna/Christy; all in favor).

Update on Website Volunteers.  We’re looking for volunteers to work on the Sustainable Stockton website.  Donna mentioned we need folks who would be willing to do general maintenance to keep up with changes to the SS site that must be done over time.  Website priorities include:  Homepage (first thing people see—includes aesthetics, utility, and continual updates); Updating & Reformatting Other Site Pages (How do we make changes?  We need programming help.); and adding Printable Versions of items such as the “Find it in Stockton” brochure.  Christy is interested in helping with the SS directory and possibly with some of the site changes.  Donna provided a copy of our site manual (made by the students who created our website) which Sharon will duplicate and distribute to Christy, Donna, Sue, and herself.  It would be wonderful if we could find a volunteer willing to update/create our next Find it in Stockton directory.

Chris Egle's brochure (Mary, Sue).  Group viewed website Chuck Egle’s son was working on—an alternative site for community listings.  Mary will check with Chuck Egle to see if SS would have to pay for a listing and follow up with group.

Items for next Town of Stockton Newsletter.  Tony of Whitefeather Organics has agreed to do a tour of his farm for SS on Tuesday, July 21, 2009.  Our group will provide free refreshments (cookies & lemonade).  Sue will work with Tony on event details and a description for the Town newsletter, our website, and for e-mail list distribution.  Sharon will check with Town Clerk, Marie Helminiak, to see when the Fall 09 Town of Stockton Newsletter will be going out and share date with Mary, so SS can plan for future items for that publication—especially the next film series.

Summer Tours of Local Businesses.  Already addressed in previous agenda item.

Volunteering at MREA Energy Fair.  Sue talked to Renea Dahms of MREA regarding volunteer opportunites at this year’s Energy Fair.  Renea said MREA is short of volunteers especially at the gate, MREA café, and grounds pick/up.  Folks can volunteer for the Energy Fair on-line.  Sharon will do a write-up on this to put in monthly e-mail and SS events on website.  Sue said that teens are welcome to volunteer as well.  Sharon will let Ms. Hausler (P.J. and SPASH FFA leader) know about this teen opportunity.

Find it in Stockton Directory Publication next Winter.  We do want to inquire to see if Jerry Piesik will volunteer to duplicate our directory again for the next year.  Also, committee needs to discuss the possibilities of business sponsorships for directory duplication and other SS’s costlier needs.  Will put directory on next meeting agenda to be discussed in further detail.

Open Discussion/Future projects, Ideas, Film series, etc.

·       Summer meetings of Sustainable Stockton will be held at 7 pm in the Stockton Municipal Building on Thursday, June 4, 2009, and Thursday August 13, 2009.

·       For future SS film series—committee may want to check with the Chautauqua group to ensure we don’t duplicate movies and/or dates.

·       Sharon to check with Jeanne/Cindy regarding the Town Park located at the municipal building to see what the Town’s plans are for it and if SS can help.  Depending on the Town’s plans, we could then contact Triple K Tree Service and Masters Gardeners in the area to see if they would like to join us in improving the park.  Respectfully Submitted,

Sharon Reichert, Secretary
