Sustainable Stockton Meeting Minutes Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 7:00 pm, Stockton Municipal Building (Meeting #10)
Attendees: Sue Anderson; Donna Literski; Mary Maller; and Sharon Reichert.
Agenda Items: Meeting Minutes. Minutes of Meeting #9 were approved (Sue/Donna; all in favor). Electing Committee Co-Chair. Tabled for now. Outreach Possibilities. The following were discussed as a means to reach out to the local community: 1. Have a Swap/Give Away or Community Rummage Sale--give out literature and possibly include a Farmers Market. MREA and Town of Stockton Municipal Building would be two possible sites for such an event. 2. Not have Sustainable Stockton meetings during the summer and instead hold discussion groups to try to pull other interested folks in. 3. Reach out to Town Board by attending its meetings regularly, keeping it posted on what’s going on with our Committee, and inviting the Board to discussion groups and other Sustainable Stockton activities. 4. Host a Potluck Dinner with music provided by local musicians (possibly a square dance) and feature local/garden food. 5. Show movies and/or documentaries (from the Environmental Education Library?) with discussion afterwards. Committee would provide popcorn and drinks for attendees (and possibly a children’s movie in another room). Possibly hold event at the old or new Town Hall or MREA building. 6. Plan and provide plantings at the Town’s Municipal Building such as an orchard or prairie garden. 7. Approach River Akemann, son of Vic and Beth who has an interest in filmmaking, to do a film on Sustainable Stockton. After discussing these outreach possibilities, the Group decided to show a movie—probably An Inconvenient Truth or The Power of Community. The tentative date is Wednesday, August 20th. Mary will send the necessary information to Sharon and talk to Jeanne about it to get the Board’s feelings/input. Sharon will write up blurb for possible publishing in Town of Stockton Newsletter. Disclaimer & Liability for Carpooling, Goods & Services on Website AND Website in General. Group concerned about liability issues regarding Carpooling and Goods & Services items on the Sustainable Stockton website (f someone was to be injured or taken advantage of by using the posted services, he/she may sue us). The following questions came up: For Goods and Services, if people pay to have ads on our website (like the Buyers Guide), would we not be liable then? What benefit would being an LLC or non-profit be for reducing our potential liability for these website items? What type of lawyer would we need to look over our disclaimer or help us with forming an LLC or non-profit? Is there a lawyer referral service on the internet?
For now, the group will remove carpooling off the main menu and just put it under the links. For Carpooling and the Goods & Services, the committee discussed including a disclaimer that any person would have to go through/read before visiting either of those website places. Lynn, one of the students who designed our website, could set this up for us for a fee. Also, Sustainable Stockton could have lists for Goods & Services and Carpooling but not have them be interactive. The Committee could just add links to a state carpooling site and Craig’s list instead of maintaining Carpooling on our site. The group could try to find a large organization to “sponsor” us where we could refer folks to their carpooling site. The Committee could put the “Find it Stockton” in Events part of the site to let people know a hard copy of the list was available and where. Donna will get the rest of the Directory listings from Mary and finish those up. Sharon will check on becoming an LLC or non profit. Sue will check with Renea at MREA to see if they have dealt with some of these same matters. Donna will contact an acquaintance attorney to see if he has any advice or can refer us to a proper lawyer.
WEEB Grant/Lightbulb Projects. Kim Becken had to attend a meeting in Wausau regarding the WEEB grant tonight. She will report back to the Group on those findings at a later date. Cindy Davis should have information available next month regarding the household lightbulb project. Open Discussion. No additional discussion ensued. Next Meeting. Due to the 4th of July Holiday, the next meeting will be Thursday, July 10, 2008, (instead of July 3rd) at 7:00 pm at the Stockton Municipal Building. Agenda for that meeting will be sent at a later date. Respectfully Submitted, Sharon Reichert
