Meeting #27, May 5, 2011

Thursday, May 5 at 7:00 pm,
Town of Stockton Municipal Building, Mtg. 27

Attendees:  Sue Anderson, Mary Maller, Christy Weseloh, and Donna Literski.

1. Meeting Minutes.  Minutes of the November meeting will be sent to those in attendance for approval as they were not sent with the November meeting notice.  They will then be added to the website.

Our winter social was held in lieu of a formal January meeting at Clancy’s Stone Lion.  We had a wonderful turnout and a good time was had by all.

2. Lecture/Film Series 2010/2011.  We have completed our winter green-themed film/lecture series.  Attendance dwindled toward the series end.   This is something we may want to discuss prior to scheduling the next series.

A suggestion was made to consider including the film ”Journey to the Planet Earth, Part B” in our next series.  It was premiered on PBS in March.  Christy will check into the cost of this film – it may be more than our budget allows.  Christy reported that the cost of the film is approximately $150.

Ellie Jackson, Community Outreach Assistant (AmeriCorps Member), is currently interning at the MREA.  As one of Ellie’s projects, she has chosen to continue the green-themed documentary film/lecture series at the MREA.  We’re very happy she has decided to keep these going and ask that you support her project.  Thus far she has shown films subjects of:  Asparagus Farming in Michigan and The Electric Car.

If there is a film planned for July, we will hold our July meeting ahead of the film at 6:30 p.m. at the MREA.  Mary will follow up with Ellie on this possibility.  Mary reported that a film has been scheduled, thus our meeting next meeting on July 14.

3. Find It In Stockton Directory.  Due to last year’s cost of $5 per listing in the directory and additional monies contributed by several listers, we have enough money remaining to print the 2012 directories.  In the July town newsletter we will let folks know that there will be no cost for next year’s listing.  Also, we will ask folks to notify Donna of any changes to the current listings, additional listings on the website, and if they have new listings to be included for 2012.

4. Year 2011 Tour Schedule.  We discussed several tour options including:

-- Garden tour/perma-culture garden in Stockton owned by Olson brothers.
-- Gordendale tour of their methane facility.
-- Invasive species ID and public service (removing them from our Stockton Park or other residence).

It was decided to check into scheduling the garden/perma-culture tour in August.  This particular garden offers folks the opportunity to see the perma-culture gardening system, a drip irrigation system,  etc.  Mary will follow up on this.

5. Newsletter.  Sue will get Donna listing of this year’s area farm tours to be included in the monthly newsletter.  Thanks Sue.

6. Community Event.  We also discussed the possibility of scheduling future community events such as:

-- Winter Cabin Fever Reliever (Home Spun Fun) at the Town Hall – game night.
-- Establish a children’s event hosted along with the EMS/Fire Fighters Open House next year.  This could be something like a scavenger hunt at the Town Park.

7. Next meeting:  Thursday, July 14, 2011, 6:30 p.m. at the MREA.
