Our next Meeting/Gathering.  Our next gathering will be a social at Clancy’s Stone Lion, Thursday  January 6th, 6:00 p.m. 
We’d enjoy seeing you at Clancy’s for our January dinner meeting.  It’s always nice to chat with neighbors. Please join us.

Our winter sustainable themed Lecture/Film Series will kick off on January 13th, 7:00 p.m., at the MREA.  Lowell Klessig, of New Hope, will present “Sustainability and Setting Priorities – Incompatible Approaches to Life (Eleven Necessary Conditions for Sustainability.

Our Find It In Stockton Directories for 2011 have been printed and are being sent with your annual Town Newsletter.  We have 50+ listings of local suppliers of Goods and Services.  This year we had to charge $5 per listing and we thank all those who have continued to list in the directory and those who have contributed a little extra to support printing costs.  Our brochure was printed by Dolce Printing (owner Nancy is a local Stockton resident). Remember to check first if you can “Find it in Stockton.”

Introduction for Potential Vendors to Local Food Fundraiser
Farmshed is currently looking for farmers and vendors interested in participating in the second annual “Local Food Tastes Great” school fundraiser.  This fundraiser offers schools a way to raise money by selling locally grown food and locally produced items and gift certificates, while supporting local farms and businesses.  The fundraiser brochure from this year can be accessed at: http://farmshed.org/images/documents/localfoodfund_brochure10.pdf

If you are interested in selling locally made products through this fundraiser, please attend the Jan. 12 informational meeting.

Co-sponsors the County Library and UWSP Library will have a public showing of this documentary with a discussion to follow for those interested.  Previously Sustainable Stockton had shown this film at MREA.  The documentary addresses information about the food industry, specifically about what we eat and how it’s produced and where we’re going from here.

5th Annual Wisconsin Local Food Summit

Summit Itinerary includes:
Thursday – breakout sessions on local food topics followed by a facilitated summit session to determine, through consensus, the three highest priority topics for local food system development in Wisconsin.
Friday – again breakout sessions and a facilitated summit session focused on regional connection building and collaboration.

“Uncommon Facts about Common Birds.” By naturalist, wildlife photographer and writer Stan Tekiala.

13th Annual Midwest Value Added Agriculture Conference
This conference will address topics such as urban agriculture, marketing, value chain management, adding value through organics, and food processing.  The Keynote Speaker will be Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm, best known for his appearances in Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.”  Joel has also been highlighted in the documentaries “Food, Inc.” and “Fresh” which you may have seen at earlier MREA presentations.
