Sustainable Stockton Meeting Minutes Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 7:00 pm, Attendees: Sue Anderson, Donna Literski. 1. Meeting Minutes. Minutes of the September meeting were approved as written. 2. Lecture/Film Series 2010/2011. The January lecture is confirmed and poster ready to go. We will post beginning mid-December. Donna will get copies of the poster to Sue, Lynn Markham and Deb Biechler for further publicity. After the meeting it was brought to our attention that the February 10th film date will conflict with the annual Food Fair. We will be checking into moving the February film to the first Thursday of the month as we do not have a Sustainable Stockton meeting that evening. 3. Find It In Stockton Directory. We plan to go ahead with paper directories again this year with one difference – listers will be asked to contribute $5 per listing to cover directory printing costs. Sue and Donna have made contacts with all current listers. The response has been positive, so we will have enough monies to again issue the paper directories. We have contacted several businesses for printing quotes. We have decided to go with Dolce Printing. Dolce is competitively priced and Nancy Dolce, proprietor, is a Stockton resident. An excellent opportunity to support local business. Donna will follow up with Dolce. Donna and Sue will meet the week of Thanksgiving to go over final edits, etc. We plan to include a short receipt to listers along with their paper directories. 4. Adopt a Road Project. This has been tabled as we did not have project details. 5. Reuse/Recycle Project for 2011. Several suggestions were discussed: a. Publicize and promote the use of the web free reuse program, Freecycle. Sue will check out program details and let us know all the details at the next meeting. b. Salvage good, reusable items from the Stockton Clean Up Day and donate those items to a local agency such as Vincent DePaul, Operation Bootstrap, etc. What we envision would happen is that a few folks from Sustainable Stockton would be at the Town’s drop site on Clean Up Day. They would select items from those being trashed, that were in good condition for reuse, and that would be accepted at local agencies. They would load the items onto a trailer/truck and drop off at the agency. Even though there may not be many such items, each item reused is not landfilled. Additionally it was suggested that if collected items could be held at a residence for one week prior to taking to an agency, we could post that list on the website for free pickup during that week. We plan to check into the feasibility of this project. In order to consider doing and announce details in the Town newsletter that publicizes Clean Up Day, we need to: c. Develop a Recycle/Reuse brochure specific to the Town of Stockton. At the time we do not have the budget for such a brochure but down the road we may be able to consider this. d. Use of our website as a place to access what may be “free” for pickup in the area. This could be something done on a simple basis such as having a link to free items available from Clean Up Day or a list compiled by calling a contact person to add to the list with item and phone number. The list would be erased periodically. Another option would be to request help from UWSP as a senior project to develop a “freecycle” within the website. 6. Year 2011 Tour Schedule. We did not discuss tours for 2011 at our November meeting. If you have suggestions for next year, please contact Sue Anderson or Donna Literski. 7. Next meeting: January 6, 2011, 6 p.m., Clancy’s Stone Lion. Note meeting time and location.
