Our next Meeting/Gathering.  We will meet next on September 2nd, 7:00 p.m., Stockton Municipal Building.  Please join us. 

A special “Thank You” to Rose and Gary Ross for hosting the Poultry Tour July 11th.  Twenty plus folks attended.   We appreciate you taking the time to show us your operation and answering our many questions.  It was an interesting, fun and the treats delicious.

August 10, 7 p.m. Vegetable Garden Walk, Jeremy Rankin. 1867 Edgewood Lane, Stevens Point.  (At the intersection of Torun and Jordan, go North on Torun about 40 yards and turn left immediately into a small subdivision on Jack’s Drive.  Follow Jack’s Drive until it forces you to turn which will become Edgewood.  A blue house at the end of the road.)  Visit a first-year raised bed garden (2700 sq. feet), organic methods and a fruit garden.  Also a four-tier composting system.  Sponsored by Portage County UW-Ext. and Central Rivers Farmshed.

August 11, 2010, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Steinhaugen Farm, Agro-Forestry Tour.3531 Bentley Road, Custer, Wisconsin   Please join other sustainable agriculture and natural resource enthusiasts for one of three tours of this agro-forestry demonstration site, established on 2.5 acres in 2007. View and learn about contour swales, mulches, water catchment, gravity flow drip irrigation, solar owered electric deer fencing, and dozens of varieties of perennial food, fiber and fuel producing species like hazelnuts, cherry, serviceberry, apple, pear, elderberry, hybrid willow, shagbark hickory and more. August 14, 9am,  Tour of the Haney, Heig, & Shaw Gardens and Prairies,  Meet at Alan Haney’s home at the end of Star Hill Road, north of CTY Z, ½ mile east of Pallen Lake.  Join a fieldtrip cosponsored by the New Hope Family Forest, Portage County Ice Age Trail, North Central Conservancy Trust, and Central Wisconsin Wild Ones. August 24, 7 pm. Vegetable Garden Walk, Judy Traviki and Ken Castleberry.  11166 Hwy. 49, Iola.  (Located about five miles east of Rosholt.  Take Hwy.66 east to Hwy. 49 east to 11166 Hwy. 49.) Visit a large organic-minded garden using natural/organic methods, including mulching, composting, and green manure crops.  View two 60 to 70 foot circle gardens and a triangle garden.  Sponsored by Portage County UW-Ext. & Central Rivers Farmshed.
