Sustainable Stockton Meeting Minutes

Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 7:00 pm, Town of Stockton Municipal Building, Mtg. 24
Attendees:  Mary Maller, Sue Anderson, Jeannie Dodge.

Abbreviated minutes taken by Sue Anderson:

1. Poultry farm tour to take place Sunday, July 11 at the Ross Farm in Custer.  Discussed poster placement and internet dissemination.

2. Jeannie recapped the chicken ordinance change: 12 hens, no roosters, no slaughtering, 50 feet from lot line, 100 feet from neighboring house, need appropriate building/run.

3. Mary will get winter film series set in late August before she leaves town.  She will incorporate Lowell Klessig’s offer to speak on “11 Necessary Conditions for Societal Sustainability” into the film series this next year and will contact Lowell about it.

4. The Choose to Reuse project was discussed.  We wondered if it would cause traffic problems if we tried to do it on the day in May when everyone can bring in mattresses, etc. to the town hall.  Some ideas we had:  (1) Talk to Joe Ancel about the Choose to Reuse day in Grant.  (2) Observe the day in May this next year to see how crazy it is.  (3) Keep thinking about other alternatives and formats for people in Stockton to exchange useful stuff free of charge (web site?).

5. A grant came by Sue and she will forward it on to others, concerning community kitchens, etc…  It’s for communities of 20,000 or less.  We discussed using the $17,000 set aside for the town park as matching funds to develop a community kitchen/community center as the shelter near the parking lot in the town park.  The grant may be due in August.  And speaking of the town park, Jeannie said the town may proceed with trail development.

6. Jeannie announced that an Adopt a Road program may start up in Stockton.

7. Jeannie filled us in on Joe K’s energy audit that looked at town buildings and vehicles and electrical use.  It sounds like it’s in progress and he is going to get more info and report back.

8. We briefly discussed the change of venue for meetings and thought that meeting at Clancy’s was successful and we may want to try it again.  Potlucks, we decided, may be a little intimidating for new people.

9. Next meeting:  September 2, 2010, 7 p.m., Stockton Municipal Building.
