Next Meeting/Gathering -  Please join us for our next meeting on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at the Town of Stockton Municipal Building.
 
May 8th, 2:00 p.m. -- Schabel Forest Tour - Join us for a Sustainable Forestry Tour.  Dr. Hans Schabel, a Germany native and retired forestry professor from UWSP, will present a tour of his Town of Stockton forest at 7976 CO I on Saturday. Visitors will get a taste of Dr. Schabel's areas of expertise which range from forest entomology and forest pathology to silviculture.  He will share with the group some of his sustainable forestry practices which are incorporated into the sensitive land stewardship management of his 60-acre property.   This forest has been subject to principles of “near-natural forest management” for over 30 years and was just logged over.  Quality forestry will be discussed, including the integration of product, environmental, social and biodiversity functions of the forests. All are welcome to attend.  Please park to the left of the road by the first barn and wear appropriate walking attire.  Tour will take place rain or shine.

May 1st,  8 am - 2 pm, Town Garage, 7252 6th Street. -- Stockton Clean-up Day, for residents only.  Please refer to your  Town newsletter for additional detals.

May 1, 8am – 5pm -- Annual Holly Shoppe Plant Sale to be held at the Lincoln Center, rain or shine; featuring locally grown plants, perennials, annual, bulbs, trees and more.

May 1, 1-5 pm --Portage County Home Compost Bin & Pail Cash & Carry Sale at the Portage County Transfer Facility off Hwy B and Apache Dr. in Plover Industrial Park.  You can pick up a “Home Composter” that holds 6 to 8, 30-gallon bags of yard materials for only $45.


May 4, 6:30 p.m. - Town of Stockton Municipal Building. - Lake Management Planning continues -  On April 6th the initial planning meeting was held at the Old Stockton Town Hall to discuss plans for Adams, Bear and Thomas Lakes.  Folks who live around the lakes and in the surrounding watersheds were individually invited to attend as well as any others who have general interest in the planning process.  The next meeting will include discussion of aquatic plants, aquatic invasive species and fisheries. You're welcome to attend the May 4th meeting.

May 7, 7-9:30pm -- Candlelight Hike Festival – Spring Migrations at the Schmeekle Reserve, 2419 North Point Drive, Stevens Point.  Campfire programs will be held at 7:30pm and 8:30pm.

May 8 -- Midwest Renewable Energy Association Move Some Earth Day ,MREA building, 7558 Deer Road, Custer.  You're invited to join the MREA staff for Move Some Earth Day as they work to improve their demonstration site and prepare for this year’s Energy Fair. Typical tasks include landscaping, clearing brush, preparing food for the Energy Fair, and more. MREA will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. May 15, 8-11 am -- A second Portage County Home Compost Bin & Pail Cash & Carry Sale combined with the Portage County Master Gardener Plant Sale at the Rettler Building in the Portage County Business Park off I-39 & Cty HH.  Pick up a “Home Composter” that holds 6 to 8, 30-gallon bags of yard materials for only $45.  

May 20, 6:30-8pm -- Hands-On Compost Workshop at the Schmeekle Reserve Visitor’s Center, 2419 North Point Drive, Stevens Point.  Are you interested in learning how to compost? Fee $5 or free when you purchase a compost bin at the sales on May 1st and 15th.
