Low cost buckets of balls on a driving range that offers a quiet, serene country atmosphere.
OUR STORY: Gene and I have two sons, Jacob, age 9, and Zachary, age 7, who began golfing about 2 yrs ago; it’s now their primary sport. Our favorite family golf spot was the driving range in Custer. For the past couple of years, we’d go there a few times each week; the boys would have the time of their lives, and became extremely proud of themselves for making significant progress in their driving distance. Gene and I loved the comfortable country atmosphere where we could drive balls with the boys for awhile, then relax and watch them, and enjoy the soft breezes, blue sky and rolling hills of the countryside. We also loved finding a low cost means of family fun!
All winter, the boys were anxious to get back to the driving range. On the first nice weather Sunday of April 2008, we excitedly drove to the range expecting it to finally be open, only to find a sign posted on the door that said “closed indefinitely. Sorry”. We were all so disappointed! After the initial shock wore off, Gene and I began talking about what a great business that could be for Jacob and Zachary to run once they are teenagers, which isn’t too far away! They could have their driving range back to consistently work on their golf game…. Golf is a safe sport we can participate in as a family, and they will use the skills they learn throughout their entire lives. Gene and I were raised with a great work ethic and have owned a couple of other businesses, and have always talked about how important we believe it is for our boys to acquire a business acumen as early as possible.
We called the owner of the driving range and asked if he’d be willing to sell… the rest is history, and we are excited to announce the re-opening of the driving range in Custer – formerly Glacier Ridge, now “Rolling Hills Driving Range, LLC”, on Rolling Hills Road. (Hwy 10 E, to Co K (north on K), ½ mile to the corner of Co K & Rolling Hills Road). Please visit us… sharpen your golf skills, enjoy the fresh air and relaxed atmosphere, and congratulate Jacob and Zachary on their new business venture!
